Bearings for paper converting and corrugators for cardboard

Bearings for paper converting and corrugators for cardboard

Corrugators are sophisticated industrial machinery used in the production of corrugated cardboard, characterized by the distinctive wave layer obtained through pressing and gluing sheets of paper.

This material is widely used for making resilient and flexible packaging.

Corrugating rolls are a key component in these production lines.

There is a complete range of cylindrical and spherical roller bearings designed specifically for corrugating rolls with specific characteristics including high-quality steel materials, heat treatment to stabilize components at around 250°C, bronze or steel cages, precision according to ISO standards, and a design aimed at optimizing load capacity, radial clearance, and lubrication efficiency.

The traditional bearing application used on corrugating rolls requires the use of either two spherical roller bearings or two cylindrical roller bearings (one fixed/one floating).

The spherical roller bearing allows for extremely high load capacity relative to the diameter ratio d/D (the series commonly used is ISO 240... K30-AH). Additionally, its self-aligning property compensates for inevitable misalignments.

Issues may arise with the "floating end" bearing lubricated with grease due to the potential danger of blocking or seizing in its housing. To avoid this, a practical solution is the "mixed application" of a spherical roller bearing on the "fixed end" and a cylindrical roller bearing on the "floating end." Indeed, since the cylindrical roller bearing is designed to allow sliding between the inner raceway and the rolling elements, it is a solution that compensates for the axial expansion of the corrugating roll.

The necessary self-aligning capabilities can also be ensured through a spherical surface of the outer ring paired with a housing alignment ring.

In most cases, it is possible to maintain the same diameter/dimensions of the spherical roller bearing used.
