Refurbishment
Refurbishment of Back-Up Rolls and Support Bearings
The decades-long experience, gained through collaboration with numerous clients, has enabled the initiation of proven processes for the restoration of back-up rolls for leveling machines and support bearings.
This allows for a significant extension of the life of each bearing, resulting in economic savings.
Refurbishment makes it possible to return a bearing to a “like new” condition, allowing for substantial savings and helping to maintain production at consistent levels of profitability.
It should also be noted that the time required for repair is considerably less than that required to manufacture new products.
This refurbishment process also contributes to environmental sustainability by limiting the need to produce new components and, consequently, reducing the ecological footprint associated with the manufacturing and disposal of bearings.
Therefore, bearing refurbishment is an important service for the steel industry, as it not only allows for cost savings and improves the availability of parts but also reduces the risk of failures and the consequent downtime.
The refurbishment service offered can be summarized as follows:
- Disassembly and washing of components, thorough analysis of damage (crack detection, hardness checks, measurement of shape and dimensions) and evaluation of the most cost-effective repair process.
- Grinding of the external diameters of a set of bearings that make up an axle of the rolling mill or a box of the leveling machine, to bring the section height to the same values, with minimal removal of excess metal.
- Replacement of any damaged components.
- Washing and assembly.
- Dynamic measurement of the new section height using a dedicated device where required by the customer’s specifications.
- Drafting of a report indicating the new external diameter dimensions and, where requested by the customer, also the section heights obtained after refurbishment (all other parameters are in compliance with the standards imposed on new bearings).
